At 11:00 a.m. Jackson EMC is experiencing 1,809 individual outages that are affecting 51,883 customers across our service area. At the height of the storm, the cooperative had approximately 76,000 customers out of power. This represents one of the worst ice storms in Jackson EMC’s history. We have downed limbs and trees, as well as downed power lines and a significant number of broken poles. To give you an idea of the scope of the damage, our system is reporting 48 switches, 1,154 transformers, 414 fuses and 200 reclosers are out of service.
Outage details are available on our outage map at http://jemc.maps.sienatech.com/
Jackson EMC crews are being joined by 60 contractor crews and 26 crews assisting from Coweta-Fayette EMC, Newnan; Carroll EMC, Carrollton; Snapping Shoals EMC, Covington; Diverse Power, LaGrange; GreyStone Power, Douglasville; Colquitt EMC, Moultrie; and Baldwin EMC, Foley, AL. The combined crews will be working throughout the day to clear outages as rapidly as the weather conditions and safety considerations allow.
At this time, our goal is to restore most Jackson EMC customers’ power within 24 hours, conditions permitting. Customers with special medical needs should make provisions until we can restore their power.
We will continue to provide updates throughout the day until the last outages are cleared.
