Chocolate-N-Pecan Surprises

  • 1 cup shortening, soft
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups Quaker oats, uncooked (quick or old-fashioned)
  • Hershey's milk chocolate bars
  • Pecan halves

Beat shortening and brown sugar together until creamy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture and blend well. Stir in oats. Chill dough several hours or overnight. Shape to form 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degree F for 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately place a small square of milk chocolate bar on each. Remove cookies from cookie sheets, and press a pecan half into chocolate on each cookie.

Yields about 2 1/2 dozen
