Jackson EMC Honored with Award by Food Bank of Northeast Georgia

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia recently held its annual Empty Bowls luncheon in Athens. Jackson EMC was a sponsor of the event and several employees attended. Jackson EMC was also recognized with the “Place of Plenty” Award by the nonprofit organization.

This year’s Empty Bowl luncheon was the biggest yet for the Northeast Georgia Food Bank, which raised more than $100,000 at the event.

Jackson EMC and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia are longtime partners. A current member, Jackson EMC will be serving the food bank’s new 63,000-square-foot building, which is scheduled to open this spring. Last year, Jackson EMC donated $50,000 through unclaimed margins that will provide freezer and refrigeration space. The overall expansion for the new building will increase its capacity by 65%.

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia’s mission is to provide, “Every neighbor. With enough food. Everyday.” It serves 14 counties in northeast Georgia, which is much of the same area served by Jackson EMC. Business Development Manager Tino Johnson is serving on the food bank’s board of directors.
