"Tropical Storm Zeta roared through our area Thursday morning causing significant damage to our power lines and equipment. The damage makes Zeta one of the most impactful storms in our cooperative's history,” said Tommy Parker, Jackson EMC Director of Operation Services. “Our crews were ready to respond and have made significant progress in our restoration. As we continue to work to restore power to those members impacted by this storm, we appreciate our members' patience."

Jackson EMC has added 60 linemen from across Georgia to its workforce to assist with restoration efforts. The majority of outages remain in Hall County, where 1,051 members are without power. Fallen trees and broken poles are slowing restoration efforts systemwide. So far, crews have identified 92 broken poles. Remaining outages are in areas with extreme damage. These areas may include broken poles and fallen trees, which must be removed to begin restoration work. Tropical Storm Zeta caused extensive damage to portions of the cooperative’s electrical distribution system in Gwinnett, Hall and Lumpkin counties. So far, 62 broken poles have been identified across the service area. October 30, 2020) – A second band of strong winds overnight resulted in nearly 5,000 additional outages for Jackson EMC members. Linemen worked through the night to restore 6,098 outages for members. As of 7:30 a.m., 6,480 members remain without power, compared to just over 50,000 at the peak of the storm.

Additional linemen arrived late yesterday and early this morning to assist Jackson EMC linemen working to restore power to members affected by Tropical Storm Zeta. The storm caused extensive damage to portions of the cooperative’s electrical distribution system in Gwinnett, Hall and Lumpkin counties.

Linemen from Pike Electric have arrived to assist with restoration efforts. Linemen from Flint Energies and Ocmulgee EMC arrived late yesterday to help, as well. In addition, Jackson EMC has 140 contractors working to make repairs. These crews work side-by-side with our own linemen to restore outages.

As line crews work to restore power, they are encountering numerous trees and limbs on power lines, along with broken power poles. The extent of the damage caused by Tropical Storm Zeta on Jackson EMC’s lines and equipment is similar with other major storms in our area in recent years, such as Tropical Storm Irma.

Tropical Storm Zeta caused extensive damage to power lines in our service area in Hall County, Lumpkin County and Gwinnett County. Crews are encountering downed trees, limbs and damaged equipment in the field. System-wide we’ve identified more than 30 broken poles so far. The average time to replace a broken pole is four hours, which is one reason restoration times are delayed for some members.
