Linemen from Jackson EMC Volunteer for a Community Member
A group of Jackson EMC linemen recently volunteered to replace a leaky roof for a member of the community in need. The team partnered with SONIC (Serving Our Neighbors In Christ), a local non-profit organization, to assist the woman in her 80s with an immediate need for a new roof. Over the course of two days, the crew from the cooperative’s office in Madison County was able to tear off the leaky roof and build a new one.
Jeff Strickland, chairman of the board for SONIC, presented the community need to Jackson EMC. As both a member of the SONIC board and a journeyman lineman with Jackson EMC, Dwayne Dickerson was able to help organize this project.
“It is really rewarding to be able to see the need in the community and meet the needs we can,” he said.
Last year, a Jackson EMC lineman crew partnered with SONIC to pave a new driveway for a member in need.
“It’s nice to be able to use and collaborate skills other than linework to help people,” Dickerson said. “I take pride in working for a company that allows us to help the community, not many companies allow you to do that.”
