Real Chocolate Silk Pie

Thank member Kathy Phillips for this Phillips' family favorite.

  • 1 cup real butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 bar (4 oz.) baking chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla flavor
  • 1 baked, cooled pie shell (8- or 9-inch)
  • 3 cups real whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Melt the chocolate in its own wrapper in the microwave, according to package directions. Be sure to save one small square for garnish. Partially melt butter and cream it with the sugar. Add vanilla and melted chocolate and beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating for exactly five minutes after each egg is added. Use the electric beater. This is the secret to the silky texture of the pie. Pour mixture into pie shell and mound with the whipped cream. Shave reserved chocolate over top of pie for garnish.

Note:Recipe uses raw eggs. For those concerned about raw eggs, pasteurized liquid eggs or pasteurized liquid egg whites can be successfully substituted.
