Sizemore appointed to Jackson EMC Foundation Board

Major Mark Sizemore, of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s Centralized Criminal Investigations Division, has been appointed to the board of the Jackson EMC Foundation, succeeding Johnny Fowler, who retired from the board in July.

The Jackson EMC Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization set up to represent the members of Jackson EMC. It distributes funds collected through Operation Round Up from participating members who have their monthly electric bill rounded up to the next dollar amount. The 11-member volunteer Foundation board of directors meets regularly to review and select grant applications for worthwhile, charitable purposes that will improve lives and respond to immediate needs.

Since Operation Round Up’s beginning ten years ago this month, the Foundation has awarded more than $10.2 million through 1,012 grants to organizations and 319 to individuals.

Sizemore has worked at ACCPD for 28 years, enjoying assignments in Patrol, Public Housing, Criminal Investigations and Central Communications. A resident of Athens for nearly 30 years, he moved there to attend The University of Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a B.A. in Criminal Justice; Columbus State University, with a Masters of Public Administration; and the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy (FBINA) 196th session.

He has served on the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Pension Board as well as the county’s Charity Drive Committee. In addition, he is an active in the Beech Haven Baptist Church where is a Deacon, has taught Sunday school for several years, and coached Upward Basketball.
