Stay Safe with Space Heaters

As the temperature outside starts to drop this fall, you may want to use a space heater to warm a specific room without cranking up the thermostat.

Stay safe with these tips for space heaters:

Plug your space heater directly into a wall outlet  - avoid using an extension cord, which can overheat or be a tripping hazard.

Keep your space heater in low-moisture rooms.  Placing a space heater in a bathroom can cause moisture to damage the unit and cause it to malfunction.

Keep your space heater at least 3 feet from children, pets and flammable items, including curtains, clothing, furniture and bedding.

Buy a space heater with an automatic shut-off switch, in case it tips over. Always unplug it before leaving the house or going to bed.

Fire prevention week is obsereved in October. For safety tips from the national fire protection association, visit nfpa.org.
